THE CHRONIC PAIN REHAB CLINIC
No one should feel trapped by pain.
The Chronic Pain Rehab Clinic is the private physiotherapy clinic of Arthur Woznowski‑Vu, PhD, Physiotherapist, and Part‑Time Professor, located on Nuns' Island (Montreal). I help people regain control of their lives with science‑based treatments tailored to their unique pain—without relying on medication, injections, or surgery.
Whether you’re facing conditions like fibromyalgia, back pain, sciatica, arthritis, pain after an injury or surgery, or pain linked to autoimmune or chronic fatigue issues—you deserve more than temporary relief. My approach goes beyond what is traditionally done in physiotherapy. Using both a trauma‑informed and a whole‑person approach, I combine trusted methods, such as exercise therapy for pain, with advanced strategies such as Pain Reprocessing Therapy. I tailor your treatment plan to the specific type of pain you experience and to the unique way it shows up in your life. The goal is to build long‑term resilience—so pain doesn’t control your life.

Physiotherapy for all types of pain:
from the simplest to the most complex,
from the most recent to the most chronic
You may have tried other treatments… without the results you hoped for
-
Maybe you’ve already seen physiotherapists, osteopaths, occupational therapists, kinesiologists, acupuncturists, or other healthcare professionals.
-
Maybe the focus was mostly on manual therapy, massages, manipulations, or needles, and you found yourself going back again and again without lasting change.
-
Maybe you’ve relied on pain medication or injections and want another option.
-
Or maybe no one has ever taken the time to clearly explain what’s going on with your pain.
My approach is different
-
When you work with me, my goal is to help you reduce your dependence on hands‑on therapy, medication, or injections.
-
Instead, you’ll learn a personalized plan on how to treat yourself based on your specific pain type and how it shows up in your life.
-
Learning to treat your own pain (pain self‑management) allows you to benefit from treatment every day, as often as you’d like, so you can accumulate therapeutic benefits as soon as possible.
-
It also reduces your dependence on me, meaning fewer appointments and more control.
What I specialize in
-
PhD-level expertise in pain treatment without drugs or injections (and part-time professor)
-
Advanced physiotherapy for chronic and complex pain (e.g., fibromyalgia, nociplastic pain, neuroplastic pain, central sensitization).
-
This expertise also improves care for recent or simpler pain (acute pain), because understanding complex cases sharpens evaluation and treatment skills across the board.
How I work
I take the time to listen to your whole pain story, because understanding the full context helps identify your pain type and the most effective, personalized self‑management plan.
I integrate evidence‑based methods such as:
-
Pain Reprocessing Therapy (certified)
-
Graded exposure therapy
-
Mindfulness, breathing, and relaxation techniques (including binaural audio)
-
Stress management related to pain
-
The McKenzie Method (certified)
-
Exercise as medicine (exercise therapy, individually tailored to each person)
-
Finding the balance between physical activity and rest
-
How to be active despite pain or fatigue
-
Pacing and coping strategies for daily life
My approach is science‑based and holistic, always tailored to what matters most in your life.
You become the expert on your own pain
-
I’ll guide you step by step so you can confidently apply the strategies yourself.
-
You’ll know what to do, why it works, and how to keep improving.
-
Your progress won’t depend on me — it will depend on the tools and knowledge you’ll carry with you.
This is what success looks like
-
You understand your pain instead of fearing it.
-
You know exactly what to do when symptoms show up.
-
You rely less on passive treatments and more on your own acquired skills.
-
You regain freedom, confidence, and control.
And this is what we avoid
-
Endless appointments without progress.
-
Short‑term relief that never lasts.
-
Feeling dependent on someone else to “fix” you.
-
Confusion about what your pain means or what to do next.

What can you expect from me?
-
You are always the most important person in the room—this is the foundation of whole-person care.
-
Every appointment starts with listening to you. Too often, people aren’t properly listened to in the healthcare system, yet your pain story matters. It helps us understand what type of pain you have, how it affects your life, and the best way to help you take control of it that is suited to you.
-
I believe your pain. Even within the same type of pain, pain is very unique from one person to another. Even if your pain doesn't correlate with medical imaging results or other tests, it doesn't make it any less real.
-
I believe it is important to craft a personalized treatment plan that matches the specific type of pain that you have, and the unique way that it's showing up in your life.
-
I strive to provide science-based, evidence-informed treatment, but theory and reality don’t always align. Your feedback is key to help me adjust and refine your treatment plan to ensure it works.
-
During our sessions, you are always in control. I take a trauma-informed approach to care, ensuring a supportive and respectful environment where you feel safe.
-
I have a zero tolerance policy for any discrimination based on ethnicity, sexuality, gender, and trans identities, or any other reason. Respect is key at all times.

He/him
I have worked clinically as a physiotherapist since 2013, helping individuals navigate the complexities of pain management and rehabilitation. Over the years, I have deepened my expertise by pursuing advanced education on the application of pain science in physiotherapy. In 2023, I completed a PhD in Rehabilitation Science at McGill University, focusing on sensitivity to physical activity—the challenge of increased pain or negative reactions when using movement as treatment for back pain and other persistent pain conditions. Both my clinical and research experience have shaped my perspective on individualized pain management, allowing me to develop expertise rooted in both research and real-world application.
I am also committed to advancing the field through education, mentorship, and advocacy. Since 2023, I have been teaching Pain Management Strategies at Concordia University. Since 2020, I have been invited yearly to Université de Montréal to deliver a guest lecture on chronic pain rehabilitation in the advanced practice physiotherapy microprogram. From 2021 to 2023, I served as Chair of the Pain Science Division at the Canadian Physiotherapy Association, leading national physiotherapy advocacy in response to the Canadian Pain Task Force's Action Plan for Pain in Canada. I continue to volunteer as a member of the executive committee of the Quebec Pain Society, further contributing to ongoing initiatives in pain care.
In 2023, I founded The Chronic Pain Rehab Clinic in Montreal as my solo physiotherapy practice. My mission is to empower people living with pain—and the professionals who support them—to take control of pain using science-based, non-pharmacological treatments and rehabilitation—because no one should feel trapped by pain.
