Arthur Woznowski-Vu

Physiothérapeute, cert. MDT, MScA, doctorat (PhD),

Evidence-based. Supported by research. PhD. Basé sur les donnés probantes. Recherche.

FAQ
  • If my pain is acute (recent), can I still come to The Chronic Pain Rehab Clinic?
Yes! Our expertise in risk factors for chronic pain helps to PREVENT your acute (recent) pain from becoming chronic pain.
  • How does your treatment approach differ from other similar health professionals? Is this the right place for me?
It depends on the treatment approach you would like to receive. There is a variety of health professionals whom you may consult for your pain and the associated functional limitations. At The Chronic Pain Rehab Clinic, your physiotherapist will focus on evaluating what are the likely underlying drivers of your pain, help you understand your pain, see what can be modified at work or at home or in your lifestyle, and some gentle rehabilitation exercises will be prescribed that you will be expected to do on your own -- all in the aim of achieving a gradual recovery of your functional limitations and improving your pain. This may require some trial and error, but you will learn what works for you and can continue doing it as prevention. Hands-on therapy is a lower priority here than what was mentioned above and won't be doing it much (compared to what was mentioned above), because (1) the benefit tends to be temporary, (2) it doesn't teach you how to self-manage your pain autonomously, and (3) it has limited effectiveness when there is a significant sensitization aspect to your pain. This approach isn't something that everyone likes because you do not spend much time lying down and relaxing. Instead, you will need to actively work for your results (with guidance), there can be a considerable amount of talking involved, as well as some trial and error may be required. However, we believe that it is valuable to prioritize this active and participative approach to treatment that you can continue on your own when you leave the clinic, since passive treatment approaches (e.g., manual therapy) require you to keep coming to the clinic on a regular basis and are difficult to continue autonomously. Thus, using this active and participative approach, the Chronic Pain Rehab Clinic offers physiotherapy services for the prevention, management, and rehabilitation of chronic pain. • How fast can I see results?
There is a lot of variability from one person to the next and from one pain issue to the next, depending on many factors and the level of complexity involved. That being said, what is typically expected is for us to complete your assessment withing the first 1 or 2 appointments, attempt a plan of self-treatment strategies and rehabilitation exercises as of the 2nd or 3rd appointment, get feedback and make adjustments so that by the end of the 3rd or 4th appointment you have self-treatment strategies and rehabilitation exercises to do for a few weeks. From there, we could see if it is possible to set up a long-term follow-up to assess where you are at in terms of improvements or not, and make further adjustments at that point. It is important to note, however, that it is hard to predict how you will respond and how fast; it will usually be clearer by the 2nd or 3rd appointment regarding what we can expect (after doing a bit of trial and error and seeing how fast your pain responds -- each person and pain is different). In some cases, only a few weeks are required. In other cases, several months are needed. I hope this explanation makes sense. If it doesn't or if you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us (contact info at the bottom of our web page).
  • What to bring?
Please bring appropriate clothing to allow for examination of the affected body part and to do rehabilitation exercises, as well as a change of shoes (or you can be in socks) to keep the room clean.
  • Cancellation policy?
Please provide notice of cancellation at least 24 hours prior to your scheduled appointment through the online booking system, by email (support@chronicpainrehab.ca), by telephone or text message (438-80-REHAB). Cancellations occurring within less than 24 hours need to be justified, otherwise a $50 cancellation fee will be charged. Thank you for your cooperation!
  • First appointment?
Please fill out the online intake form before your appointment (sent to you by e-mail). If you prefer to fill out the form in person, please arrive at least 15 minutes early to do so.
  • Adapted pricing (Financial difficulties or no insurance?)
We believe that everyone living with persistent pain deserves to have access to non-pharmacological pain management and rehabilitation (or if you've recently had surgery or an injury and want to prevent developing chronic pain). For this reason, we use adapted pricing depending on whether you have insurance or the financial means VS. whether you don't have insurance/used up your insurance quota and lack the financial means (N.B. "No insurance fee" will be printed on your receipts if you need to use this option).
  • Payment methods
We prefer to receive payment by credit card or debit card (payment terminal available on site), but other payments methods are accepted as well.
  • Telerehabilitation (remote consultation/treatment by videoconference)
Yes, we offer telerehabilitation (remote consultation/treatment by videoconference) in addition to our in-person appointments. However, you must live in the province in Quebec to take advantage of this option since we are only licensed/registered to practice physiotherapy with the "Ordre professionnel de la physiothérapie du Québec (OPPQ)". Your physiotherapists aims to bring the same level of expertise and care as in-person appointments (especially given our prioritization of an active and participative approach to physiotherapy as opposed to relying significantly on hands-on therapies), therefore the cost of telerehabilitation sessions is the same as in-person appointments.
  • How to get to the clinic?
The clinic is located : ~3min by car from the Décarie Expressway (Sherbrooke exit) ~3min by foot from the Vendôme metro station Once inside: You may take the elevator or stairs to the 3rd floor In the lobby of the 3rd floor, there is a waiting room Turn right in the hallway and you will find the clinic room (#301)
  • Parking?
Yes, there is a paid parking lot at our address. It is $5 for 1 hour (with some flexibility), which is enough for your appointment time (50min). Otherwise, it is $10 for the day. There is also nearby street parking where you can look for free spots, but be careful for reserved zone parking. N.B. If there are problems with the parking meter, simply leave a note saying: "Parking meter is broken, please see Office 301".
  • Accessibility and restrooms?
The clinic is located in a fully accessible building (ramp, elevator, and wheelchair-accessible bathroom).
  • Health policy (respiratory infectious diseases, other contagious illnesses)
As a private physiotherapy clinic located in Montreal, we practice in accordance with the latest guidelines from the "Ordre professionnel de la physiothérapie du Québec (OPPQ)" (COVID-19: informations pour les patients | OPPQ -- only available in French), as well as recognized hygiene measures for preventing the spread of respiratory infectious diseases in general as recommended by the Quebec government (Steps for limiting the spread of respiratory infectious diseases | Gouvernement du Québec (quebec.ca)). Masks are no longer required and are a personal choice, but remain recommended (especially if you have recently been in contact with someone who has COVID-19 or any other contagious respiratory illness, or who appears to have such symptoms). You can request a mask for free. If you have COVID-19 or any other respiratory infectious disease or have the associated symptoms, or if you have any other illness that can be contagious through a clinical interaction (e.g., physical contact that can occur during evaluation or treatment in physiotherapy), please reschedule your appointment for a later date when you are no longer contagious or ask to change your in-person appointment for a remote consultation/treatment by videoconference ("telerehabilitation").
